Positioning Mulligan within the broader journey of Myotherapy and allied health integration.

This session will introduce the Mulligan Concept. This concept is a manual therapy technique that combines a therapist's passive joint translation with the patient's active movement to restore pain-free function.  This "mobilization with movement” ( MWM) is intended to produce an instant pain-free increase in the range of motion, strength or function.  Brian Mulligan’s original positional fault theory will be discussed along with advances in theory in MWM mechanisms from neurophysiological and connective tissue research. Common self treatment techniques will be presented using the Mulligan Concept paradigm.

Have you noticed how, the moment a woman becomes pregnant, the conversation narrows to what she shouldn’t do? Anyone who works with—or has lived in—a pregnant body knows capability carries her further than caution ever could. Somewhere along the way, we shifted from coaching strength to coaching fear… quietly focusing on what women can’t do instead of what they can. In our session, we’ll explore the core in depth—from the muscles and layers to breathing and activation and see how each part works together to support movement, strength, and function. I’ll share real case examples and demonstrations so you can see (and feel) the concepts in action. This isn’t just theory—it’s practical tools to build confidence and capability, helping you understand what the pregnant body can do rather than being limited by caution.

Unlock a deeper understanding of spinal cord injury, beyond loss of movement. In “Charting Clarity – Understanding SCI in Practice” we explore how SCI alters sensorimotor, autonomic and systemic function, leading to complications like spasticity, neurogenic bowel/bladder, cardiovascular instability, respiratory challenges, and pressure-area vulnerability. Learn how manual and soft-tissue therapists can integrate informed, evidence-aware strategies into care, supporting mobility, preventing deterioration and improving quality of life. Ideal for Myotherapists, remedial-massage and allied-health clinicians eager to broaden their scope.

Elizabeth Lush brings warmth, wisdom, and deep clinical insight to the topic of trauma-informed care. Having worked alongside trauma survivors across diverse communities, Liz has witnessed firsthand the incredible capacity for hope and resilience that emerges when care is delivered with compassion and understanding.

In this presentation, Liz explores how manual therapists can integrate trauma-informed principles into their practice to create safer, more responsive therapeutic environments. Drawing on First Nations well-being wisdom, she introduces the practice of 'Dadirri’ - deep listening, as a framework for presence, empathy, and mutual respect within therapeutic relationships.

Participants will gain practical strategies to support clients who have experienced trauma, learning how to provide hands-on treatment that is both effective and emotional safe. This session invites practitioners to reflect on their own communication, boundaries, and approach, offering a pathway toward care that truly honours the whole person — body, mind, and spirit.

A Real-World Approach for Myotherapists Nerves don’t stretch — they move. And when they don’t, our clients feel it. This session breaks down neural mobility into clear, clinically relevant steps you can apply straight away. Learn how to recognise neural involvement, treat the interface with confidence, and build mobility strategies that hold up in the real world.

This session explores the evolving role of myotherapists in supporting individuals recovering from cancer treatment, with a focus on collaborative care for oncology and lymphoedema management. Participants will gain an understanding of common treatment-related side effects from surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, and learn key therapeutic precautions for patients in early recovery and beyond.

The presentation will provide practical guidance on safe and effective manual therapy approaches, along with evidence-based recommendations for therapeutic exercise during and after medical treatments — specifically tailored for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Emphasis will be placed on how myotherapists can integrate this knowledge into clinical practice to improve outcomes, reduce risk, and enhance quality of life for patients navigating the complexities of cancer recovery.

In this presentation, participants will be guided through a modern approach to understanding pain perception while challenging, tissue-based models of pain and manual therapy mechanisms.

This presentation with discuss that pain is not a simple reflection of tissue injury, but a dynamic process shaped by the brain’s predictions, expectations, and context. From a neuroscientific perspective, pain is influenced by the perceived level of threat which influences action through protective behaviours, avoidance or altered movement. The mechanisms of manual therapy move beyond mechanical effects by understanding how providing a novel sensory input with manual therapy alters context and creates opportunities for patients to update their predictions of safety and movement.

By reconceptualising pain through this lens, clinicians can shift from “fixing tissues” toward understanding how we can aid in reducing the perceived level threat that is associated with persistent musculoskeletal pain.

Sleep is a crucial and core component of all aspects of physical and mental health and wellbeing. Moira’s presentation will ensure you get an understanding of the basic science of sleep, especially the circadian system. Common sleep disorders will be described and pathways to treatment highlighted. You will also learn why sleep is so essential and what happens to us when we don’t get enough. There will be discussions of sleep’s relationship to mental health and that individual factors are smaller influences than the social and ‘whole of society’ factors. Evidence-based sleep strategies will be provided for you, your clients, your teams and your families to put into practice.
